Firstly, apologies for the delayed review of the services we received from Red Land Design due to work commitments. We were lucky to have been attended by Mr Edmund Cham, who showed great professionalism, expertise and experience in the world of interior design.

From the very beginning, Edmund was attentive and patient in listening to our requests and requirements for the design of our new home. He raises points and provides ideas while listening to our vision and kept in mind the practicality of a design element requested by us in day to day living. Moreover, Edmund is receptively open and creative when presented with designs which are unique from those common here in Malaysia, adopting various methods to incorporate such designs into our home while making use of the available craftsman on hand.

Under the attentive and meticulous eyes of Edmund, he and his team not only navigated through challenges posed by certain contractors but also triumphed over the setbacks caused by the unprecedented delays of the Covid-19 pandemic. As in many major projects, there are bound to be certain hiccups along the way. However, these hiccups were easily solved as Edmund was always present for site visits and would immediately be in attendance to ensure that any problems which arises were rectified immediately and safely.

Additionally, after handing over the keys on completion of the project, Edmund still checks up to ensure that there were no issues after our family had shifted into our new home.

Edmund's talent and eye for design has helped us in materializing our dream and vision for our family home into reality. Thank you Edmund from Red Land Design.

When we first purchased a new house, a main consideration was whether to work with an interior designer or not. The main reason was the budget.

After researching and interviewing various interior designers and we finally found Alan Choong and Yenney of Redland Design.

They understood our needs and made us comfortable enough that we trusted them to take upon the task while we are in another state due to MCO.

Alan and his team has excellent taste and resources. He knows where to find the right products and materials. And what more, he even travelled all the way from Ipoh to Perlis, just to let us compare the colour and materials he found for the cabinet door. The subcontractors he works with are professional too.

Unfortunately, due to travel restriction for the past few months, only the kitchen is fully renovated. They also did a great job for the master bedroom, dining area and the living room. Can’t wait to show you all once it is completely done.

Alan is a truly gifted interior designer who has helped us realize our aspirations and has exceeded all of our expectations while at the same time helping us stay on budget. We truly could not have accomplished this without Alan’s help. Overall we are extremely pleased with the service and expertise provided.

If you're working with an open budget, this company might initially seem like a suitable choice. I'd like to share my experience with RL during a home renovation project. Upon discussing our budget, their team presented an optimistic outlook. Our design quote was RM18K, and after making an initial payment of 70%, we expected high-quality service. Unfortunately, the reality fell short of our expectations. We faced numerous communication issues, and contrary to our belief, our project was not assigned to a single designer but handled by multiple individuals. This, I presume, was due to the smaller scale of our project compared to others showcased on their Facebook page.

The first design phase, lasting two months, was standard, but subsequent minor changes also took a considerable amount of time, as we were placed in a design queue. All our communications were via WhatsApp, where some of our specifications were overlooked, leading to further delays. After a challenging six-month design phase, we were informed that the project remained within our budget, with an additional cost of only 60K. However, it's important to note that their original quotation covers only listed items; anything extra incurs additional charges. There were numerous omissions made to stay within the “budget”. For instance, our kitchen design lacked personalization and functionality, as it didn't reflect our specific needs and workflow.

The project manager promised completion within a maximum of 10 weeks. The total cost was quoted at 460K, excluding basic fixtures like faucets, WCs, showers, etc. Ultimately, we chose not to proceed with RL. The RM 18K design fee resulted in a blueprint that wasn't accurate, and the final 3D renders seemed hastily done compared to the initial presentation. I even had to personally oversee adjustments to the lighting due to oversight in the ceiling layout.

From this experience, we learned that the firm's focus seemed more on maximizing budget extraction rather than delivering quality service.

For first-time homeowners with a budget, looking to renovate certain areas of your home, I suggest exploring services that offer 3D renders and allow you to see and feel the materials you're investing in. Unlike at RL, where you're left to imagine most details with just a sample board for reference.
