The trail head is currently inside a construction sight. So constantly changing. Once you found the concrete stairs and the water pipe you know you’ve found it. It’s a strenuous but absolutely rewarding hike. Enjoy!

Nice jungle trek but not easy to find. Go through the gate to the water tanks (it looks like it’s not a place visitors should enter). There is a clearing to the left and behind the large water tank and that’s where the trail starts. There is a sign but it’s small and near impossible to find however if you go up the hill through the clearing you’ll find the power lines on the ground and that’s what you’ll follow. It’s a mixture of steps and dirt paths. I didn’t go all the way to Juara, just to the top and back, but it was very nice. Trail is just good enough to be usable but bring insect repellent and lots of water. It’s cooler higher up but heat/humidity/lack of breeze in the lower part is stifling.

Much to consider here...

Read several reviews before attempting. It is very badly marked, signposted, findable. It involves going past water tanks that seem like private property. The signs are pictured. Even then you have to choose the most likely path where there seems no path at all. You know you're in the right place when you see a big grey pipe to follow. Follow it to the right. Shortly after this, you will go up some steps. If you don't, start again. Some describe it as moderate. I'd describe it as hard...it's more the heat and humidity that get you though.the route down is less gruelling, but has 2 or 3km of steep road. I say do it, taking plenty of water and stopping at Ali's Waterfall on the way down.

TIOMAN TRAVEL TIP — JUARA TO TEKEK BY MOTORBIKE 🛵
Just did the trip from Juara to Tekek by motorbike, and here’s the truth:

âś… The road is fully paved and in excellent condition.
âś… Locals ride motorbikes back and forth between the two sides with no problem.
✅ It’s steep in some parts, but totally doable if you’re careful.

🚫 BUT… you’ll hear this a lot:

> “It’s not safe.”
“You can’t go by motorbike.”
“It’s forbidden.”

🧠 Why?
Many locals work with the 4x4 transport service charging RM150 per ride.
If tourists start using motorbikes, they lose business.
So, they scare tourists into thinking it’s dangerous or not allowed — but it’s not true.

💡 I did it, it’s safe, and I saw many locals doing the same.
So if you're confident and experienced, rent a motorbike and go explore freely.

Let’s keep travel honest 🙌

100% recommended trail! Approx. 3h one way. The entrance is a bit tricky to find tho. You have to walk through the gate towards two water tanks and turn left behind them. We saw a few monkeys. And bring water. Enjoy!!

Backing up Ben's review.
Head up the road to the tank, follow it right but stick to the left. There is a path, it's the closest one to the tank which doesn't look like a proper opening hut falls into a path.
This hike kicked my butt with the humidity. There's stairs and jungle floor.
Monkeys, bat's, squirrels, wild flowers. It's beautiful.
Be careful of large butterflies coming close, most likely a baby bat.
Follow it to the spilt, go left and wonder until you see a sign on the left. Opposite is the path to the waterfall for a swim.
I think it was about 12km from Tekek to Juara in total.
Pack water. Expect to pay 30myr for a taxi back. Ask a local store to organise.
